Project Hallway

Well the school holidays are over and the kids are back at school! Definitely time for me to catch up on a few things…

The first item on my list is updating you on progress with my home renovation. Painters, builders, plumbers, wallpaper hangers, electricians and landscape gardeners have been arriving en masse over the last 6 weeks, and there is still plenty to do! One project that is complete though is the hallway.

As shown in the before photos, my hallway was fairly nondescript and unremarkable. A transition space that really had no character of it’s own. It was definitely time to change this and create a space just as character filled as other spaces within the house.

The hallway already had some great attributes with the inclusion of existing bronze finished wall sconces, and hardware. Sisal had also been added previously alongside Porter’s Paints ‘chalk’ on the ceiling, skirting and doors. The brief then was to include a wall covering, and other finishes, that would not only complement existing elements, but also give this space the WOW factor.

I had to look no further than a stunning wallpaper from Icon Textiles and Ralph Lauren Home, Coco de Mer in Bronze. It was love at first sight for me, and although at this point I had only seen it on the web, I was 99.9% sure that it would live up to it’s reputation once a sample had been viewed.

Finishing touches were also considered for this space, and once again existing pieces of furniture and accessories were used.

The finished product is everything I knew it would be! Once the wallpapering was complete and accent pieces were added, including this stunning mid-century sculptural piece, the rest as they say is history.

Drama, ambience, and textural layers in the interplay of pattern, colour, light and dark, combined with a combination of materials from rich, dark woods to elements of luxe (brass and bronze finishes) create a hallway that is not to be forgotten or outplayed by other interior spaces within this home.
